Five Ingredients: Quick and Easy Food

Jamie Oliver is an accomplished British chef, TV celebrity, and author. His 2017 novel “5 Ingredients: Quick and Easy Food” is one of his best sellers. Aiming to simplify meal preparation for home chefs, this cookbook focuses on recipes that require no more than five components.

Everyone in my family knows that I love to cook; even my in-laws will give me food-related gifts for my birthday or for Christmas. A few years ago, I got an amazing cookbook as a Christmas present. I received my first Jaime Oliver cookbook. Jamie Oliver’s book “Five Ingredients: Quick and Easy Food” is now among my favorites on the shelf.

5 Ingredients: Quick & Easy Food

In “5 Ingredients,” Oliver stresses the value of good products and keeping things simple in the kitchen. Breakfast, lunch, supper, and dessert recipes are all covered, with examples including steak stir-fry, roasted carrots, and chocolate mousse. Oliver also gives tips on how to make grocery shopping less stressful and get the most out of your time in the kitchen.

He advises people to prepare their meals ahead of time and provides tips for cutting costs in the kitchen. To sum up, “5 Ingredients” is a helpful guide for house cooks who want to make tasty meals with little time spent in the kitchen. It’s a fantastic choice for people who are short on time or who just want to cut down on their time in the kitchen.

When it comes to food, the name Jamie Oliver is synonymous with fame. A native of Essex, England, he began taking an early interest in the kitchen upon his 1975 birth. He started his career in London’s fine dining establishments after attending Westminster Catering College at the age of 16. In the early 2000s, Oliver shot to fame thanks to his television program “The Naked Chef,” which featured easy and approachable recipes for home cooks.

Since then, he has written many cookbooks and appeared on several cooking shows as a guest. Oliver emphasizes ease and taste in his “5 Ingredients” cooking method. By doing so, he hopes to inspire people to get creative in the kitchen and make the most of whatever they already have on hand.

Each of the recipes in this book requires little in the way of ingredients or time to prepare and serve. The importance placed on using fresh, high-quality products is one of “5 Ingredients”‘ most notable characteristics. Oliver says that people should let the natural flavors of the best available fruits, vegetables, meats, and seafood shine through.

If you’re a home cook looking to streamline your process without sacrificing taste, “5 Ingredients” is a must-have reference. This cookbook is ideal for those who want to make tasty meals with minimal work thanks to its focus on high-quality ingredients and clear instructions.

Here is Jamie Oliver’s recipe for Tender Lamb Shoulder from his book “5 Ingredients: Quick and Easy Food”:

Ingredients:

  • 1. 25 lbs. lamb shoulder, bone-in
  • 2 preserved lemons
  • 1 lb. dried chickpeas
  • 2 lbs ripe blum tomatos
  • 2 heaping teaspoons ras el hanout

Instructions:

Pour the dried chickpeas into a 16-by-12-inch roasting pan.

Quarter the preserved lemons and trim away the core, then finely chop and rind them. Add to the pan with a good splash of liquor from their preserve jar. Roughly chop the tomatoes, adding them to the pan as you go.

Drizzle the lamb with one tablespoon of olive oil, then rub all over with the ras el hanout (a curry-like spice) and a pinch of sea salt and black pepper.

Put the lamb in the pan and pour in four cups of water; cover tightly with aluminum foil, and place in a cold oven.

Turn the temperature to 325° F and leave the lamb in there for 6 hours, or until the chickpeas are cooked through and the lamb is pullable.

After 3 hours, stir a splash of water into the chickpeas and cover tightly again with foil.

To serve, taste the chickpeas, season to perfection, and drizzle with a tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil, then pull the lamb apart with two forks.

Now, there’s one of my all-time favorite recipes. If you’re a meat eater, give this one a try.

Don’t get hung up on the fact that most of these recipes actually have more than five ingredients. The point is that they’re simple to make and taste delicious.

So, with just five simple ingredients (mostly), you can make a delicious and tender lamb shoulder with little work. I use my slow cooker for a lot of these recipes.
